WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Albert Jermaine Payton, 24, has been identified as the man who DC police shot at after he refused to drop a knife.
On Friday, at approximately 5:47 p.m., police responded to the report of a man threatening to do bodily harm in the 4200 block of 4th Street, SE.
Officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife. He brandished the knife when he approached police, who directed him to drop the knife. When he did not comply, officers fired, hitting the suspect.
He was taken go a local hospital by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
MPD's Internal Affairs Division is conducting the investigation.
