05.20.12 Offshore Wind Energy
The
U.S. government has given the go-ahead to a Maryland-based company to
put together plans for a $5 billion transmission line that will carry
electricity from wind towers of off
the mid-Atlantic Coast. This is good news for advocates of offshore
wind power, but the industry still faces many challenges, including
harnessing air currents and government subsidies that may expire soon,
among others.
Jim Lanard, director of the Offshore Wind Development Coalition, will join the program to discuss how wind energy's progression.
